Visit your local park it will
help connect you to your community.
Call to the parks, and
we heard it!
Parks & People has
begun the community's exterior restoration of the
"greenhouse" for inner city Washington, the Josephine Butler Parks
Center at
2437 15th, overlooking Meridian Hill/ Malcolm X Park.
Starting this week and
going until September, we need volunteers to help us
uncover, restore, and refinish the historic walls and
decorative elements, including glazed terra cotta sculptures,
marble columns, wrought iron balconies, and more.
Historic preservation specialist
Laura Oliphant is leading the work on the Center Tuesday
through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Help
is needed especially on weekdays, and people can volunteer
for part or all of each day. The work is safe,
fun, educational, and a great service to a great community
center. To sign up for work days or to get more
information, call GO-2-PARK (462-7275) or write washingtonparks@aol.com.
Thanks!
